DISC PROBLEMS

Vertebral discs are the spongy or jelly-like structures which separate the bones of your spine. They help minimize the effect of gravity on your spine and act like little shock absorbers while we walk, jump, run, sit, or really do anything else. When healthy, the discs also give the nerves that come out of the holes in between the vertebrae plenty of space.
You may know (or be) someone who has experienced a disc problem after lifting a heavy weight in the gym, leaning over “wrong” to pick something up, or even just sneezing, picking up a pencil, or swinging a golf club for the 10,000th time! You see, disc problems can often arise from common age-related degeneration, poor posture, or repetitive stress on the spine over years of work(and not taking care of the spine). The “piece of straw which breaks the camel’s back” is something we see all too often in our office. Unfortunately, if it is a disc problem it can cause severe pain, trouble walking, difficulty getting out of bed or up from a chair, or even cause certain organs to not work properly. Dull ache, numbness, tingling, muscle weakness, and sharp, stabbing pains are very common and some people may also find that pain increases with certain movements like leaning away from or towards one side or twisting. It’s essential to recognize these symptoms and seek appropriate care to prevent further injury or more severe complications!
Through specific spinal adjustments and decompression techniques, our Sea Point Chiropractors can help benefit people with Disc Problems by decreasing pressure on the discs, correcting overall body posture, allow for optimal balance of your body’s weight, and restore specific spinal alignment and movement. A study published in 2014 found that Chiropractic Care resulted in significant improvements in pain and disability in patients with lumbar disc herniation.
By doing a thorough assessment, our Roots Chiropractors are able to discover the Root cause of the disc problem, take steps to alleviate the pain, and promote long-term relief through improved spinal alignment and function.
